Introduction to Martin's fare conditions

Public transport in Martin is a part of the Integrated Transport System of the Žilina Self-Governing Region (IDS Plus), which currently includes the regions of Kysuce, Horné Považie, Liptov, Orava and Turiec and the carriers DPMŽ, DPMM, SAD Žilina, Arriva Liorbus and Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK). 

Single-trip tickets

With all single tickets it is possible during their validity to transfer within the tariff zone 300 and use the lines of carriers involved in the IDS Plus (city buses, regional buses, regional passenger trains). When transferring, it is always necessary to attach the transport card with the electronic ticket to the check-in device. In the case of paper tickets, it is necessary to show the ticket to the driver when transferring, or scan the QR code on the ticket with the scanner at the check-in device (if equipped with one).

Tariff zone 300 includes the territory of the towns of Martin, Vrútky and the municipalities of Turčianske Kľačany, Lipovec and Bystrička.

• Tickets purchased with a travel card in vehicles are in electronic form.
• Tickets purchased at the driver's in cash or by bank card are in paper form.

All-day tickets

*) On free days, one basic 24-hour/72-hour all-network ticket is valid for a group of up to 2 adults and 3 children (but at least 1 adult + 1 child), the so-called family fare.

With daily tickets it is possible to transfer and use all lines of carriers involved in IDS Plus within their time and zone validity (in the 300 zone, or in the case of the all-network in all zones of IDS ŽSK).

They can be purchased from the driver on public transport and regional buses, at SAD Žilina sales points and at ZSSK ticket offices.

A daily ticket purchased in cash or by bank card is in paper form, a ticket purchased by transport card is in electronic form. The paper ticket must always be shown to the driver or the travel card must be attached to the check-in device when boarding the vehicle.

Luggage tickets

Luggage ticket must be purchased for the transport of hand luggage larger than 30 x 40 x 60 cm (or a cylinder larger than 150 cm and with a diameter of more than 20 cm, a board larger than 5 x 80 x 100 cm), luggage heavier than 15 kg, a dog without a container, a pair of skis, a sledge, a snowboard and an empty baby carriage/wheelchair. Valid for the specified time in all zones of the IDS Plus.

Prepaid long-term tickets for zone 300

With prepaid tickets it is possible to transfer and use all lines of carriers involved in IDS Plus within their time and zone validity. They can be purchased on a travel card at the sales points of carriers or through the Internet sales of carriers involved in the IDS Plus.

If a passenger does not want to use public transport in Martin and Vrútky, but only regional trains and buses, he/she can buy a cheaper ticket for regional zone 299 according to the price list for regional prepaid tickets instead of a prepaid ticket for zone 300.

When boarding the vehicle, it is always necessary to attach the travel card with the prepaid ticket to the check-in device to register the journey.

Discounted and free transport in Martin's public transport

• The following groups of passengers are eligible for discounted fares:
  • children from the age of 6 to the age of 18,
  • full-time students up to the age of 26,
  • holders of disability cards (if they are not entitled to a special fare),
  • senior citizens from the age of 63 (if they are not entitled to a special fare),
  • holders of the Janský plaque and the Kňazovický medal (if they are not entitled to a special fare) - the discount applies only on DPMM lines when using a special DPMM travel card.
• Free transport:
  • children up to the age of 6,
  • guide for children up to 6 years old (only for travel card holders),
  • baby carriage with a child and one adult,
  • a severely disabled person in a wheelchair, including the wheelchair,
  • a companion of the holder of a ŤZP-S card, his/her guide or assistance dog.
  • hand luggage smaller than 30 x 40 x 60 cm (or a cylinder smaller than 150 cm with a diameter of up to 20 cm, a board smaller than 5 x 80 x 100 cm) and lighter than 15 kg.

Free transport only on Martin public transport lines and when using the DPMM travel card  is also available to seniors aged 63 years and older, holders of ŤZP/ŤZP-S cards, Janský plaque and Kňazovický medal, who are also residents of the city of Martin. When boarding the vehicle, it is always necessary to purchase a registration ticket by attaching the transport card to the check-in device. The annual fee for extending the entitlement to this discount on the travel card is € 5.

Accepted travel cards

The following cards can be used as transport cards in the IDS Plus:

• contactless chip cards issued by operators SAD Žilina, Arriva Liorbus, DPMŽ, DPMM, Umbrella City Lines SK, Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko and operators involved in the Transcard system,
• Mifare DESFire virtual travel cards,
• valid school and student cards (ISIC) with activated transport part.

The electronic wallet on the transport card is portable, i.e. it can be used to purchase a ticket by a person other than the card holder. However, in the case of purchasing a discounted ticket, the passenger must be able to prove his/her entitlement to the discount at the time of inspection.

Fines

Amount of penalty payments in case of inability to present a valid ticket, travel card with a recorded journey, or discount card at the time of inspection:

• 50 € if paid directly in the vehicle or if paid within 5 working days at the DPMM Customer Service Centre,
• 70 € if paid after more than 5 working days at the DPMM Customer Service Centre,
• 5 € upon additional presentation of a valid ticket or discount card within 5 working days at the DPMM Customer Service Centre.
• 5 € in case of non-payment for luggage/dog, payment in the vehicle or within 30 calendar days at the DPMM Customer Service Centre.

To the above amounts will be added the cost of recovery of the fine.

The imposition of the fine shall allow the passenger to travel no further than the final stop of the service on which the inspection was carried out.

Sales point

The sales points of the Transport Company of Martin is located in the building of the Municipal Office of Martin in the city centre (Nám. S. H. Vajanského 1). Passengers can there obtain a transport card, top up the credit on their travel card or purchase a prepaid ticket. The standard opening hours of the shops are listed below.

IDS Plus integrated tickets can also be purchased at SAD Žilina sales points (client centre at bus station Martin) and at the ticket offices of the ZSSK (railway stations in Martin and Vrútky).
